Marian J Whittaker, 89, of Kingston, NY passed away on July 27, 2022 at Golden Hill Nursing & Rehab Center in Kingston, NY. She was born on January 7, 1933 in Kingston, NY and was the daughter of the late Louis Guadagnola and Mary DeFeo Guadagnola.
In her early years she worked at the family store DeFeo’s Market before going to nursing school to become a Registered Nurse and working at Benedictine Hospital. She worked as a Registered Nurse and manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance for over 20 years until she retired in 1996.
Marian was a volunteer with the Ulster County Literacy Program, Director of the Kingston Women’s Bowling Association, Honorary member of the Kingston Women’s Bowler Hall of Fame. She was also a member of the Esopus Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Softball coach for the Esopus girls Little League and supervising member of the Drum & Bugle Corp. Marian was an avid area bowler and loved participating in bowling tournaments allover NY state. In her later years she cherished her time with her children and many grandchildren & great grandchildren. A lifelong Yankee fan she could be seen shouting at the TV during each game she watched using her derogatory pet names for each player if they played badly. She enjoyed her 5 cups of coffee each morning along with her sweets and especially loved her Chicken McNuggets.
Marian was predeceased by her brothers Louis Guadagnola Jr. & Charles Guadagnola & his wife Betty Guadagnola.
Marian is survived by her children Rodney (Susan) Whittaker, Linda Metcalf, Deborah (Vinny) Perry, her grandchildren Christopher (Allyson) Whittaker, Jeffrey Whittaker, Niki Metcalf, Alexis Metcalf, Shayne (Kerrie) Grant, Jason Grant (Brittany), and great grandchildren Zachary & Collin Whittaker, Nathan & Aiden Whittaker, Lauran & Natalie Grant and Peyton Grant.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may gather on Sunday, July 31st, 2022 from 1pm-5pm. The service will be Monday, August 1st, 2022 at 11am at St. Joseph’s RC Church. Burial will follow at Montrepose Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1905 in her memory.
