Margaret Sharon 'Peggy' Priel of Netherwood Road, Hyde Park died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx. She was 60.
She was born in Jersey City, NJ on July 23, 1943, a daughter of the late Robert William and Agnes Murphy Priel.
Peggy was raised in Elizabeth, NJ and then attended Mount Mercy College in Pittsburg, PA. She received her B.S. degree and then graduated Fordham University with a Master of Social Work.
She moved to East 71st Street, New York City in 1972. From 1968 - 1990 Peggy worked as a medical pediatric social worker at Bellevue. For the next 10 years she did pediatric oncology at N.Y.U. Medical Center. In 1995 Peggy moved to Bronxville.
Peggy contributed to the developement of the Focolare Movement at Mariapolis Luminosa, Hyde Park. In 2001 she moved up to Hyde Park.
Surviving are four sisters Maryanne Ward of Columbia, South Carolina, Kathleen White and her husband Anthony of Greenwich, Connecticut, Lynn Levin and her husband Jay of Bayone, New Jersey, and Barbara Priel-Gunter of West Palm Beach, Florida; 8 nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will gather at Mariapolis Luminosa, Cardinal Drive, Hyde Park on Friday 4-5 and 7-9 PM and on Saturday from 10-12 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Light Chapel at Mariapolis Luminosa on Saturday at 2:00 PM. Interement will follow in their cemetery. Fellowship and dinner will follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Peggy's memory may be made to the 'Focolare Movement' 200 Cardinal Road, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
DIRECTIONS: From New York City, by car FDR north to Willis Ave Bridge to 278-Bruckner Expwy to Bronx River Pkwy North to Sprain Pkwy to Taconic Pkwy for approx. 55 miles. [X] Turn left off the Taconic onto Salt Point Turnpike, (the next exit after Route 44 Poughkeepsie/Millbrook. The exit is on the right, then an overpass leads you to the left). Stay on Salt Point Turnpike, which is also called Route 115. Route 115 curves to the right as you leave the town of Salt Point. Follow 115 and turn right at Route 41 (there is a sign for Hyde Park). Stay on 41 for about 3 miles. Turn right at Route 16 (there is a traffic light) and take your first left onto Cardinal Road. Go 1.5 miles to Mariapolis Luminosa (which will be on your left).
From Long Island/Throggs Neck Bridge, by car Cross Throggs Neck Bridge. Take 95 North to exit for Hutchinson River Pkwy north, to Route 684 (in the direction of Brewster). Follow 684 to Route 84 West (in the direction of Newburgh). Take exit for Taconic Pkwy north, and follow directions as above (from [X]).
From New Jersey and Pennsylvania, by car Take 87 north (New York Thruway) to Exit 18, then go east on Route 299 to the end. Turn right onto Route 9W south. Follow signs to Mid-Hudson Bridge. Cross bridge and stay in the right lane, and take exit for Route 9 north to Hyde Park. Turn right on Route 41 (East Market St). Cross Route 9G and take first left onto Cardinal Road. Stay on Cardinal Rd for 2 miles to Luminosa (which will be on the right).
From Route 9 (north or south to Hyde Park) In Hyde Park, turn east onto Route 41 (East Market St.). Cross Route 9G and take first left onto Cardinal Road. Stay on Cardinal Rd for 2 miles to Luminosa (which will be on the right).
From Connecticut, by car Take Interstate 84 West (towards Newburgh) to Taconic North, and follow directions above (from [X]).
From Albany, by car Take the Taconic South to Salt Point Trnpk (Route 115). Turn right on the Salt Point Trnpk. Route 115 curves to the right as you leave the town of Salt Point. Follow 115 and turn right at Route 41 (there is a sign for Hyde Park). Stay on 41 for about 3 miles. Turn right at Route 16 (there is a traffic light) and take your first left onto Cardinal Road. Go 1 mile to Mariapolis Luminosa (which will be on your left).
By train The closest train station to Hyde Park is Poughkeepsie. Trains to Poughkeepsie leave Grand Central Train Station, New York, at regular intervals.
