Margaret "Peggy" Durkin

Margaret Mary Peggy Durkin, 87, of Hurley, died peacefully, Friday, June 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in County Mayo, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. Durkin & Annie Harrington Durkin. Peggy was a nurse in England before she moved to Hurley NY. She also lived in various towns in PA and Montgomery NY. Peggy traveled throughout Europe as a caregiver and teacher for years. Peggy enjoyed writing poetry, needlework, painting with watercolors, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews & great nieces and nephews. She was a beloved sister, aunt, 2nd Mom, friend and sibling. She was an excellent gardener and accomplished cook. A sister, Eileen Reilly and her husband, Joseph of Hurley, NY, survives Peggy and her sister Theresa McDevitt of Harleysville, PA and a brother James F Durkin of County Mayo, Ireland. Also, many nieces and nephews & great nieces and nephews survive. Peggy will be reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue Kingston NY on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Then a funeral procession will proceed to St. Josephs Church for a Funeral Mass that will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Marys Cemetery. The family wishes to express special thanks to Hospice of Ulster County for their warm caring and support.
