Margaret I. "Moncie" Mitchell, formerly of Catskill Ave., Kingston, NY died Monday, October 19, 2009 at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC. She was 92.
She was born in Ulster Landing, NY on November 27, 1916, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Julianna Sarvas Cherny. She attended Kingston High School, and graduated from Spencer Business School, Kingston.
As a secretary, Ms. Mitchell worked at I.B.M., Kingston for 23 years. She retired in 1979.
For over 50 years Ms. Mitchell belonged to Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Santa Maria #164. She served in many offices including Regent. A parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Kingston, she belonged to the Altar-Rosary Society and the former St. Joseph's Senior Citizens. A former board member and hospitality chair of the Ulster County Historical Society, she also served in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Spring Lake Fire Department, hospitality committee.
Four brothers Charles, Andrew, Joseph and Edward Cherny and one sister Helen Evans all died previously.
Surviving are two daughters Colleen Rae Sidley of White Plains, New York and Nancy Irene Ross and her husband Donald of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren Heather Pudvin, Shannon Sidley-Lebedev, Frank and Rion Yonnetti and each of their spouses; four great grandchildren Madelyn Yonnetti, Gracie Rae Pudvin, Giuliana Yonnetti and Lily (due in November); many nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Kingston at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kingston.
