Margaret Gagnon

July 20, 1942 — March 21, 2025

Margaret L. Gagnon (Michaud), 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 21 at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, NY. Margaret (Marge) was born in Cohoes, NY on July 20, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Leona Michaud (Lessard).

Marge had a lifelong passion for serving others in the healthcare field. After she graduated from Pace University with a master’s degree in nursing, she served as a Critical Care Nurse managing the ICU at Kingston Hospital for over 20 years. Her dedication to healthcare continued with her work on the Senior Health Caravan helping seniors throughout Ulster County. She, along with RN’s Linda Showers and Susan Allen, created The Rose Women’s Care Service and Resource Center in Highland, NY, specializing in women’s healthcare initiatives. Recently, she served her community as a CPR and MAT instructor, a Healthcare Consultant for Daycare Services, and she coordinated the Lions Kids Eyesight program for the Rondout Valley Lions Club. In addition to many other service initiatives, Marge also participated in United Way’s Raising Hope project.

In her free time, Marge loved traveling. She traveled widely throughout the United States and visited over 15 countries spanning five continents where she cherished nothing more than immersing herself in history and culture and meeting the people who lived there. She enjoyed music, theater, dancing and family gatherings. She was musically gifted, and sang with the Mid-Hudson Women’s Chorus and the Kingston Community Singers. She looked forward to attending plays and concerts locally and during her travels. Marge and Dan were often the first on the dance floor, regularly dancing to Through The Years.

Marge welcomed, guided, and nurtured many children into her home as a foster parent. Jeanie Scott (Hutter) became a member of the family during Jeanie’s high school years, and has remained a close friend to Marge.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Daniel Gagnon, her sister, Jean Ludlum and husband, Edward, of Mayfield, NY; her children Michelle Haller and husband, John, of Saratoga Springs, NY; Daniel Gagnon and wife, Patricia, of Cohoes, NY; David Gagnon of Stone Ridge, NY and Nora Gagnon of Saugerties, NY; six grandchildren, Brian (Casey), David (Amanda), Lauren (Ryan), Alysha (Will), Trish (Sam), and Andrea (Gerald), and two great grandchildren, Layne and Ripley. Marge is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews as well as countless dear friends and colleagues.

Anyone who knew Marge knows that she was passionately dedicated to FAMILY and COMMUNITY. Marge’s generosity, interest and dedication to others is evidenced by her anatomical gift to Albany Medical college. The family wishes to thank the caring, compassionate staff at Health Alliance Hospital and Susan Rolison from Hudson Valley Hospice.
