Marcus Joseph Colavecchio, 84, of Kingston, died Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Kingston Hospital. He was born March 23, 1926 in the Bronx, to the late Joseph and Helen Stettinger Colavecchio.
He was the husband of Joan Winchell Colavecchio, they wed on May 6, 1949 at the Ponckhockie Congregational Church
He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the US Navy, training at Sampson, NY. Served on the LST #512 in England, France and Fort Pierce, Florida, for landing craft training. He was stationed in the Philippines, Hawaii, Japan and New Guinea aboard the USS Washburn. He had been employed by IBM of Kingston and Poughkeepsie, retired as a manager after 34 years of service in 1987.
Mr. Colavecchio had been a member of the Ponckhockie Congregational Church; he was a very active member of the Reformed Church of the Comforter, he had taught Sunday school for over 50 years and was know by his students as "Mr. C". He had served on the consistory of both churches, and had also been a lay preacher.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Marilyn Lawrence of Kingston, Lori Hannay of Marlborough, MA and Donna Bryant of Hudson, MA, (formerly of Tillson), five grandchildren, Larissa LeClerec, Marcus Hannay, Kaleena Hannay all of Massachusetts, Jeremy and Joshua Bryant of Kingston, three great grandchildren Ian Hannay, Carrington and Haven LeClerec all of Massachusetts. His sisters Ruth DeCicco of Kingston, Rose Tessler of Washington, DC, Philomena Schordine of Poughkeepsie and a brother Louis Colavecchio of Florida, several nieces and nephews.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, Friends may call on Monday from 2- 4 & 7 - 9. The service will be held at the Reformed Church of The Comforter on Tuesday at 2:00 PM, the Rev. Dr. David M. Brechter and by Rev. Reyes Torres, officiating.
Burial in Wiltwyck Cemetery, with military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW.
