Marcello Della Ruffa of Sherman Road, Zena died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Benedictine Hospital. He was 82.
He was born in Tempagnano di Valdottavo, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy on February 3, 1926, a son of the late Italo and Genevra Bachini Della Ruffa. Mr. Della Ruffa moved to the United States in 1949 and settled in the Bronx. He married Isma Lipparelli on December 29, 1946.
He previously worked for the 7 Santini Brothers as a trailer driver. He belonged to the Teamsters, Local 814, New York City.
A restauranteur, he later owned and operated the Sunrise Ravioli Co., Bronx. There he operated the La Cuccumeggia Social & Political Club, Inc. He was known for his quality breads and pastas.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years, Isma Lipparelli Della Ruffa; two sons Italo Della Ruffa and his wife Susie of Yonkers; Steven Della Ruffa and his wife Pat of Zena; three grandchildren Eric and his wife, Jen, Martine and Dina Della Ruffa; many cousins, nieces and nephews in Italy.
Two grandsons, Andrew Della Ruffa and Stevie Della Ruffa, both died previously.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday 7-9 PM. The funeral procession will form on Saturday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Kingston at 1:30 PM.
Inurnment will be in Italy at a later date.
