Madeline "Tootsie" Aviles, 81, of the Town of Ulster, passed away on Nov 8, 2015 at home with her family. She was born December 15, 1933 in The Bronx, NY to the late Michael T. Cullen and Norah (Hynes) Cullen.
After graduating high school, Tootsie attended business school in New York City. She later married her husband of 60 years, John A. Aviles; they wed on September 10th, 1955. Shortly after, they moved to the Kingston area where they raised their family. Tootsie was a former parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow RC Church in Saugerties.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Carol Timlin and her husband Ernest of Poughkeepsie; Stephen Aviles and his wife Pauline of Kingston; her grandchildren, Kyle, Kelcie, and Tiana Timlin; as well as her sister, Patricia Cain of Seal Beach, CA. She was an aunt and "Second Mom" to many of her nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings, Theodore Cullen, Margaret Ward, Phillip Cullen, and Helena Dolan.
Tootsie loved to cook and was at her happiest hosting holiday celebrations and family get togethers. Family meant everything to her and her door was always open to her loved ones. Her favorite pastime was spending the day at home on her porch and enjoying the wildlife in her backyard.
The family would like to sincerely thank Hudson Valley Hospice for their wonderful care of Tootsie and incredible support for her family. Memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice at
