Mabel Lipton, a longtime Kingston resident died Thursday, October 30, 2003 at the Golden Hill Health Care. She was 96.
She was born in Brooklyn on March 28, 1907, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Gottlieb Kirschner. Mrs. Lipton moved to Kingston in 1920 and during WW II worked as an insurance agent for Prudential.
From 1945 until the late 1950’s she co-owned and operated with her husband, Lipton's Delicatessen on Albany Avenue in Kingston. She also worked at several area retail stores including Londons, Leons and Flahs.
A member of Congregation Ahavath Israel, Mrs. Lipton was a member of the Sisterhood, B’nai Brith and Hadassah.
Her husband Julius Lipton died May 19, 1969. One brother Julius Kirschner and one sister Sadie Gruberg both died previously.
Loving mother of Evelyn Samuels and her husband Melvin, Carl Lipton and his wife Roslyn; sister of the late Julius Kirschner and Sadie Gruberg; grandmother of Emily Samuels, Nancy Gay and her husband Reggie, Amy Lipton, Elaine Lipton and her husband Terry Gallagher; great grandmother of Jonathan Gay, Jemma and Elliot Gallagher. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday at 12:00 PM at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave.. Interment in Montrepose Cemetery.
