Lydia Giuffre Devine, a longtime resident of the Town of Ulster, died Saturday evening December 4, 2010 at Ten Broeck Commons, Lake Katrine, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 28, at home, 652 Broadway, Kingston and was the daughter of Angelo and Catherine Giuffre. Her family, for many years, owned and operated Tesoro Giuffre Market on Central Broadway.
She was a graduate of Kingston High School, and then attended secretarial school. For many years she had worked at Trailways when they were located on Broadway. She was the wife of Edward Devine, they wed on October 5, 1952, he died on March 21, 1992.
She was a parishioner of St. Catherine Laboure RC Church; she served on the Altar Rosary Society, was a past member and secretary of the Hudson Valley Rose Society, and also volunteered at the Ulster County Infirmary.
Lydia was a caring and giving person, her life revolved around her family. She was always there to take care of her parents, aunts and uncles, especially in their older years, often taking care of many of them in her home. She was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, nana and great nana.
Lydia is survived by her beloved children Cathy Roeber and her husband Paul of Lake Katrine, a son Michael Devine and his wife Ildiko Devine of Accord, her loving grandchildren Jessica Liu and her husband Dean Liu of Saugerties, Lindsay Roeber of Lake Katrine, great grandchildren Mya, Jackson and Kai Liu.
Entrusted to the care of the A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston. The family will receive their friends on Wednesday from 3 - 7 p.m. The procession will form on Thursday at 10 a.m. and proceed to St. Catherine Laboure R.C. Church where at 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Father John Kearney, celebrant. Burial in St Mary's Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905
