Lucas “Luke” A. Benson, 33, of St. Thomas, USVI, formerly of Highland, passed unexpectedly on July 22, 2022. He was born on March 22, 1989 in Staten Island, New York and was the son of Roger Benson and Candace Garibaldi Benson.
He was a graduate of Highland High School, Class of 2007, he then graduated from Marist College, Class of 2010, earning his Bachelor of Science in business administration/finance with a minor in economics. He completed his degree work in 3 years.
He loved sports, he played Little League baseball and Youth League soccer and in High School played on the varsity football team. He was a lifelong NY Yankee fan. He also started and ran “Cool Handyman Luke” contracting business. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, having a good time and enjoying the company of others. He moved to St. Thomas and was the manager of the bar at the St. Thomas Yacht Club, USVI. He was also the yacht club’s youngest member. His off hours were spent sailing in the beautiful waters of the Virgin Islands.
He lived his best life.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Jessica Benson, his aunts and uncles, Charles “Uncle Chuck” Garibaldi, Valerie & Joseph Boshart, Patrick & Barbara Benson, Kevin and Karen Benson, and Leila Toomey, a Godson RJ and several cousins. He is also survived by his nephew Cole Vasquez who he cared about deeply and loved with all of his heart. Lucas is preceded in death by his uncles James “Jimmy” Garibaldi and Michael Benson
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, NY 12466. The Memorial Gathering will be on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Luke’s life will be at the Benson residence immediately following. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1905 in his memory.
