A Memorial Mass for Louise Merette will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16th at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Frank J. Damis will officiate.
Louise Merette, 76, formerly of Kingston, died Feb. 14, 2012 in Boynton Beach, Fla. where she resided.
Since her retirement, Louise had also been a summer resident of Kamouraska, Canada. Louise was born June 10, 1935 in St. Pascal, Canada to the late Maurice and Jeanne (Gagnon) Deschenes. Soon thereafter, Louise was lovingly raised by her stepmother, Rachel Deschenes Piuze, after the tragic deaths of her parents. Louise's only daughter, Lucie Merette Walker, died in 2010.
Survivors include Louise's grandchildren: Larissa Anne Walker of Bethlehem, Pa. and Charles "CJ" Walker of Hurley; her son-in-law, Charles "Bud" Walker, also of Hurley; several aunts and an uncle in Canada; and many dear friends, including: Elnora McSpirit of Kingston, Pat Merck of Tillson, Joan Amsler of Canaan, Conn., and Patricia and Don Danielson and their family of Highland Mills, N.Y.
Louise graduated with distinction from the St. Louis Family Institute in Loretteville, Quebec in 1955. She moved to the United States in the early sixties and became a citizen in 1967. Louise joined Benedictine Hospital as a Kitchen Supervisor in 1963 and later became Supervisor of the Dietary Dept. at the U.C. Infirmary Annex. In 1973, Louise accepted the Assistant Dietician position at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, where she worked until her retirement in 1991.
At her request, Louise was cremated in Boynton Beach at a private ceremony. There will be memorial services held for her on June 16th in Kingston, and in Kamouraska, Q.C. in the fall.
