Louis J. Cardinale of Locust Street, Town of Ulster died Tuesday at the Golden Hill Health Care Center after a long illness. He was 89.
He was born in Catskill on August 29, 1916, a son of the late Frank and Christina Pepe Cardinale. Louis served in the US Army - Air Corps during WW II.
He married Ann M. Amato on April 8, 1939.
A longtime area resident, he worked at Hercules, Port Ewen for 25 years. He retired in the late 1970's.
A parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Mr. Cardinale belonged to the American Legion, Kingston Post #150 and the B.P.O.E.
Two sisters, Elizabeth Perpetua and Palmina “Pat” Wisneski and one brother James Cardinale all died previously.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 66 years are two daughters Patricia Maxwell and her husband Bill of Kansas City, Kansas and Linda Keiser and her husband Jeff of Boca Raton, Florida; one son Frank Cardinale and his wife Anne of Kingston; 8 grandchildren John Gerken, Holly Gerken, Stephen Fedak and his wife Tracy, Terri Edmunds and her husband James, Julie Fedak, Louis Cardinale and his wife Denise, Christopher Cardinale and his wife Vera and Michael Cardinale; 11 great grandchildren John Gerken, Holly Gerken, William Gerken, Joseph Fedak, Jessica Fedak, Mark Fedak, Connor Edmunds, Olivia Edmunds, Angelina Edmunds, Mateo Cardinale and Cadence Cardinale, many nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:15 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery.
