Loretta Van Aken, 87, of Golden Hill Drive, Kingston, formerly of Port Ewen, died Sunday, March 28, at Golden Hill Health Care Center. She was born July 5, 1922 in the town of Ulster, to the late Harry and Reba (Van Kleeck) Shurter.
She was the wife of the late Frank J. Van Aken; he died on May 14, 1991.
Mrs. Van Aken had been employed as a Postal Clerk at the US Post Office in Ulster Park, until her retirement.
She had been a very active member of the Reformed Church of Port Ewen, a member of the DORCAS Society and prior to that had been very active member of the Ulster Park Reformed Church where she had been the Sunday School Superintendent.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Lloyd, Albany, NY, sister Hilda Leonard, Poughkeepsie, 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. She was the mother of the late Sally Ann Utter and sister of the late Clara Fairbanks.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, friends may call on Thursday from 4 -7 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Reformed Church of Port Ewen on Friday at 10 am. The Rev. James Beukelman, officiating.
A Service of Committal will be held on Saturday, April 10th 2010, 11:30 AM at the St. Remy Rural Cemetery, Greenkill Road, St. Remy, NY.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Reformed Church of Port Ewen, PO Box 580, Port Ewen, NY 12466 or charity of your choice.
