Linda (Goldowsky) Svirsky, 84, of Shelton CT, formerly of Weston, CT, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, March 23rd surrounded by love at Brightview Senior Living in Shelton, CT.
Linda grew up in Port Chester, NY, daughter of the late Sydney and Gertrude Goldowsky. She attended Port Chester High School and went on to attend Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. On a visit to see her sister in Kingston, NY, Linda met her future husband, Stuart Svirsky. She married Stuart in 1965 and moved to Kingston, where they raised their daughter Michele and were surrounded by family. They lived there until Stuart’s career took them to Pittsburgh and Atlanta before returning to the Northeast, eventually settling in Weston, CT where she lived for almost 30 years. In 2021, Linda moved to Brightview’s Wellspring Village where she was cared for by an amazing staff. The family could not be more grateful for their love and support.
Linda was passionate about spending time with family and friends and their home in Weston served as command central for many fun-filled gatherings. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and cousin. She relished being known as silly Aunt Linda and Mamma Lin to friends. Linda also enjoyed a long career, from hospital and school administration to event planning, and eventually as executive assistant to the CEO at a finance company. While she loved that job, she may have loved her unofficial title of “office mom” the most.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband Stuart, her sister-in-law Judith Cohen, and her brothers-in-law Morton Cohen and Harry Simon. She is survived by her daughter, Michele Svirsky and partner Jason Nilon of Shelton, CT; her sister Sue Simon of Canton, MA; her brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Jacalyn Goldowsky, of Port Chester, NY; her nieces and nephews Bonnie Simon, Beth Leonard, Jon Simon, Mitchell Cohen, Jon Cohen, Wendy Cohen, and Josh Goldowsky; her great-nieces, as well as numerous cousins whom she loved dearly.
The family appreciates the outpouring of support they have received. Linda will be laid to rest in a private service in Kingston, NY. A Celebration of Life will be held in CT at a near future date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Walk ALZ Walk
Linda always said that being a good person was what mattered. She would certainly appreciate taking a moment to share a little extra kindness in her honor.
