Lilly Beyl, formerly of Staten Island and Sun City West, Arizona, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Baptist Home, Rhinebeck, NY. She was 86.
She was born in Switzerland on October 18, 1922, a daughter of the late Werner and Bertha Studer Hug.
A member of the Swiss Red Cross during WW II, she was instrumental in setting up orphanages fro refugee children. She would go into Germany to get needed food and supplies for these children. Many children's lives were saved due to her heroic acts.
A licensed Practical Nurse, Mrs. Beyl worked at Edgar Nursing Home, Staten Island from 1960 - 1987.
Her husband Louis Beyl died September 23, 1990.
Surviving are her son Peter Beyl and his wife Ruth of Mt. Tremper; one grandson Michael Ajerman.
Her biggest happiness was bringing joy and sharing with others. Her house was always open to everyone. She loved to entertain and holidays were always spent with a house full of people.
