Lillian Lutzin of Virginia Beach, VA died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at The Terrace at Beth Shalom, Virginia Beach. She was 93.
She was born in Burlington, VT, a daughter of the late Abraham and Sarah Mazur Fleischmann.
Mrs. Lutzin was an active member of Arlington Fairfax Jewish Congregation, now Etz Hayim of Arlington, VA, where she served on numerous committees and was active in their Sisterhood. She was a gracious hostess and could always be seen in the kitchen where everyone marveled a the beautiful platters she so artistically created. She was always greeting new faces. She and her late husband chaired many major events for the congregation. She was past Sisterhood President at Temple Israel in Albany, NY and served on the New York State Women's Joint Legislative Forum as Secretary. She was an ardent life member of Hadassah and was a member of their board in Northern Virginia where she presided for a number of years. She was a delegate from Northern Virginia on a trip to Israel with Hadassah. She made each of her children and grandchildren life members and Associates. She was a life member of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington.
She became very involved with the art program at the Terrace at Beth Shalom Village where she lived. She used her artistic abilities to paint wonderful and creative canvasses and was also involved with the pottery program there. Her husband, Sidney G. Lutzin died July 10, 1999. Six brothers and sisters Isaac Fleischmann, Ann Keil, Ida Simon, Samuel Fleischmann, Israel Fleischmann, and Dubby Rubinchik all died previously.
Surviving are two daughters Paula Beth Lutzin of Quincy, Mass. And Judith Ellen Hurwitz and her husband Donald of Chesapeake, VA; one sister Celia Hebel and her husband William of New Jersey; four grandchildren Seth Philip Cohen and his wife Amanda, Joshua Avram Cohen and his wife Randi, Bryan Mathew and Sarah Beth Hurwitz; three great grandchildren Ari and Sidney Cohen and Ethan Hurwitz; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Sunday at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
