Ellenville- Lillian Finkelstein, formerly of Carnation Ave. and West Palm Beach, Fl and Ithaca, NY died Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca. She was 86.
She was born October 5, 1917 in Montreal, Canada, a daughter of the late Barnett and Sarah Getscoff Patofsky.
For 22 years, she served as Clerk, Tax Collector, Assessor and Registrar for the Village of Ellenville. She retired in 1982. She was a member of the NYS Municipal Clerks Assoc. (NYSMCA) since 1960 and a member of the Education Standards Committee.
She was a member of the Sisterhood of Congregation Ezrath Israel in Ellenville since 1960 and served as president of Hadassah in Ellenville for 4 yrs. She also was former secretary/treasurer of the Ellenville Environmental Conservation Committee.
Surviving is her husband, Samuel Finkelstein whom she married in 1947, a daughter, Shelley Devore of Albuquerque, NM and a son, Kenneth Finkelstein of Ithaca and a brother, Irving Patoff of Montreal, Canada and three granddaughters, Esther Devore, and Emily and Madeline Finkelstein.
A brother, Carl Patoff and a sister, Ettie Spector died previously.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 12:00 noon at Congregation Ezrath Israel by Rabbi Moshe Frank. Burial will follow in Ezrath Israel Cemetery in Wawarsing.
