Leonard P. Ingellis

Leonard P. Ingellis, 91, of The Hills in Port Ewen, NY, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine, NY. He was born April 11, 1922 in Lyndhurst, NJ to the late August and Mary (Lipoma) Ingellis. He was married to Johanna (Ehmann) Ingellis; they wed on July 20th 1953 in Germany.

Leonard was very proud of the military service of himself and his four brothers during WWII, as well as his sister in law, brother in law and cousins. Leonard served in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater where he saw action during the Battle of Leyte Island in the Philippines. He was a recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with Bronze Star, Army of Occupation Medal Europe, WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Service medal with Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal.

He later worked as a supervisor for Pan American Airlines as a port steward, before retiring in 1974.

Leonard was a life member of the American Legion Post 49 in Tupelo, MS, and a member of, Disabled American Veterans, Queen Memorial 92, NY, VFW Post 7172 North Shore, NY and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 421, Staten Island, NY

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Joachim "Joe" Ingellis and his wife Lois of Port Ewen, his brothers, Fred Ingellis of Tupelo, MS and Joseph Ingellis of Connecticut, his grandchildren, Peter Ingellis and Caryl Mahar, and his great grandchildren, Alexander Ingellis, Elizabeth Ingellis, Charlotte Mahar, Emmeline Mahar and Karl Piperato.

He is predeceased by his siblings, Daniel and Vincent Ingellis and Theresa Quintiliani.

Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen. Services will be held privately at the discretion of the family.
