Leonard J. Schwebach of Evergreen Lane, Hurley died Wednesday evening, November 22, 2006 at Thoompson House, Rhinebeck. He was 86.
Born in Granville, Iowa he was a son of the late Theodor and Anna Niichel Schwebach.
He served in the US Navy during WW II in both Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of Operations. He married Anneliese Felder on April 20, 1944.
Formerly of Franklin Square, Long Island, he moved to Hurley 28 years ago.
An avid outdoorman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. His 'first love' was his motor home and be belonged to the GMC Motor Home Club. Mr. Schwebach belonged to Mended Hearts.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years, Anneliese, are one son Mel Schwebach of Levittown; two daughters Lynn Palser and her husband Jeff of No. Wales, PA and Gail Moore and her husband Vincent of Holtsville; one sister Viola Wersinger of Minnesota; four grandchildren Jessica and Vincent Moore, Jennifer and Ryan Palser; many nieces and nephews.
Four brothers Ted, Ambrose, Lawrence and Clemens Schwebach and one sister Marie Lundquist all died previously.
Reposing at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be Monday at 9:15 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Hurley Cemetery.
