Leona A. Norton, 79, of Emmerick Street, Kingston, NY, died Monday, June 1, 2009 at Kingston Hospital. She was born October 28, 1929 in Kingston, NY to the late Lester and Agnes (Ellis) Norton. Leona was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1947. She had worked at Hercules Powder Mill, and then went to work for IBM in Kingston and then Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1991. She member of Church of the Comforter, she was very active, serving on the church consistory and as the secretary - treasurer for ten years. She was president of the Colonial Gardens Senior Citizens Club, a volunteer at the Kingston Rondout Welcome Center, very active in her high school reunion committee and the mayor's advisory committee. Leona is survived by her brother Frank Norton, Dallas, TX, sister Madeline Craig, Kingston, NY, Kathryn Melville, Quarryville, NY, George B. Norton, Rosendale, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Sister of the late William Andrew "Bud" Norton.Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, where services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am Keyser Funeral Service, Inc. by Rev. Dr. David M. Brechter, officiating. Burial in Montrepose Cemetery.
