LeKia Angelique Thompson - Hopgood, 43, of Kingston, passed unexpectedly Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.
She was born December 8, 1971 in Kingston and leaves to cherish her memory her parents Sandy Thompson - Hopgood of Kingston and Howard A. Hopgood, Sr. of Kingston, her adopted father Donald O. Waters of Wappingers Falls, her loving daughter Alyssa Simone Thompson of home, two brothers Howard A. Hopgood, Jr., Orlando, Fl. and Derrick T. Miller of Poughkeepsie, twin nieces whom she raised Sandi and Sydni Alonso and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Kia was a member of New Jerusalem United Church. She was very involved with the community and spent many evenings counseling people who were at risk and was very helpful to drug addicted and those with special needs. Kia attended Kingston Schools, graduated from North, SC High School and studied at SUNY Ulster, Benedict College and Ashford University.
The Homegoing Service will be at the New Jerusalem United Church on Saturday at 1:00 pm, with Bishop Perzavor Armour, Pastor; the Eulogy will be given by Rev. Dr. Alice Green, Pastor, Solid Rock Ministries, Laurel, MD. The family will receive their friends on Friday from 6 - 8 pm and on Saturday from 11 - 1 pm at the church.
