Le Roy J. Williams, 80, of Kingston, NY, departed peacefully on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Kingston Hospital, Kingston, NY. He was born November 25, 1930 in Kingston, NY to the late Al Jones and Mary Elizabeth (Jackson) Wright.
He was married to Nevada (Garner) Williams, they wed on February 15th 1975. Nevada passed away on March 10th 2008.
LeRoy was known to friend and family as Lee or LeRoy. He had attended several years of school as a child and then stepped into working construction for Laborer's Local 17 for 44 years. LeRoy was the man that could accomplish anything he had set his mind to do. One of his most desires in Life was family, cooking ziti and enjoying his grandchildren; he had also devoted much of his time and energy as a caregiver and helping others in the time of need.
Le Roy was one of the 1st and long time members of New Central Baptist Church and was Chairman of the Deacon Board, head of transportation, outreach and food supply committees. Before LeRoy had taken ill he had been an active member in the AME Zion Church of Kingston. One thing LeRoy enjoyed doing on Friday night was bowling with the Friday Nite Hustlers and he also played baseball with the Destroyers Athletic Club (AC), one of the area's best teams.
He is survived by his children; Mary Ellen Goins and her husband Kenneth of Katonah, NY, Hazel James and her husband Clement Sr. of Kingston, stepchildren, Ellen Anderson Monroe of Kingston, Janett Downes of Kingston, Kenneth Moody of NYC, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents he is predeceased by his son Leon "Pete" Williams and step-daughter Lynette Jackson.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10 - 11 am at the AME Zion Church of Kingston, 26 Franklin Street, Kingston, NY, 12401.
Services will follow at 11 am at church.
Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The American Heart Association, Founders Affiliate, PO box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
