Laura Louise Joy

Laura L. Joy, 76, of Sawkill, NY, passed away on August 18, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, NY. She was born March 17, 1946 in Kingston, NY, daughter of the late Francis “Bunk” Joy and Grace (Scheffer) Joy.

Laura worked for Ulster County where she did administrative work for 35 years before retiring. After retiring, she worked as Town Clerk for the Town of Kingston and Secretary/Treasurer of the Sawkill Fire District for many years. Laura was a member of the Plattekill Reformed Church, Sawkill Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Sawkill Senior Citizens, and several bowling teams. She enjoyed spending time with family, animals, cruises, and casinos.   

She is survived by her sister, Marguerite Stoddard and her husband Marvin, her nephews, Ross Stoddard and his wife Penny and Duane Stoddard and his wife Linda, her great nephews, Caleb and Damian Williamson and Scott Stoddard, her step great nephews, Adam Williamson, and Shawn and Ryan Pierce, as well as many cousins. She is predeceased by her niece, Anita Stoddard Williamson. Although Laura never married or had children of her own, she was a second mother to her nephews and niece, Ross, Duane, and Anita.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Tuesday August 23, 2022 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will take place at 11am on Wednesday August 24, 2022 at the Plattekill Reformed Church, 622 Kings Highway, Mt. Marion, NY 12456. Burial will follow in Mt. Marion Cemetery.
