Kurt Hoffmann, 80, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Westchester Medical Center after a short illness. He was born on September 14, 1943 in Mahopac, NY and was the son of the late Stanley Hoffmann and Doris Schaefer. Kurt was married to Catherine Adams Newton on February 20, 1965.
Kurt served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1966. He was stationed in Charleston where he met and married his southern bride, Catherine. After his service, he taught ski patrol, attended Dutchess Community College, and got his degree from SUNY Oswego to become an industrial arts teacher. After graduation, he taught in the Kingston City School District at both Myron J. Michael & Miller Middle Schools. He received his Master’s degree from SUNY Albany.
Kurt sang baritone in the Mendelssohn Club and the First Presbyterian Church Choir, both in Kingston, NY. After retirement, he was a member of the U.S. International Muzzle Loader Team which competed in France. Kurt loved his family, his friends, his country, and being at Caroga Lake, where he and Cathy loved to vacation.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Hoffmann; his daughter, Lyra Nelson (Nels); his grandchildren, Aryn, Jorgen and Milo Nelson; cousins, nieces, nephew and friends too numerous to count. Kurt was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Rosenstein, and sister Nancy Nichols.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401. A visitation will take place at Fair Street Reformed Church, 209 Fair St., Kingston, NY 12401 on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 10am-11am. A service will be held at 11am. Burial at Wiltwyck Cemetery to follow.
