Kent Leslie Mardon, a retired attorney who headed the New York State Attorney’s General’s regional office in Poughkeepsie for many years, died on June 12 in Kingston. He was 88.
In addition to his distinguished law career, Kent was a lifelong boating enthusiast who enjoyed spending time with friends and family on the Hudson River. His last boat, the North Queen V, was docked at the Rondout Yacht Basin.
An active member of Vassar Temple in Poughkeepsie, he served as President, Treasurer and a Board Member.
Along with boating, Kent's other hobbies and interests included restoring and driving vintage automobiles and tractors; relaxing with his beloved cats; solving crossword puzzles; and watching the Giants, Jets, and Jeopardy.
Born March 4, 1936, in Utica, N.Y., Kent was the son of Dr. Phillip and Mrs. Esther Mardon. After graduating from Massena High School in 1954, he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Syracuse University in 1959, and a Law Degree from Syracuse Law School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Kent worked for the Attorney General’s Office from 1964 until his retirement in 1995. In addition to serving as head of the regional office in Poughkeepsie, he tried many eminent domain and liability cases in defense of New York State. One of his largest groups of cases helped secure the land for New York Stewart International Airport.
Kent is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathy; his sons, Russ Mardon and his wife Ariana Leon and Steve Mardon and his wife Kim Sherman; his grandchildren, Sophie, Jenna, Sachin, Sasha, and Zella; his stepson, Michael Fiore and his wife Tina, his stepdaughter, Katherine Fiore; his grandchildren, Kathryn, Anna, and Gianna; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
An earlier marriage, to Carol, ended in divorce; she died in 2022.

A funeral will be held Monday, June 17, at 10 a.m. at Vassar Temple, 140 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY, 12601 with burial to follow at Montrepose Cemetery in Kingston.
