Kenneth W Hopper, Jr., 65, of Big Pine Key, FL, formerly of Hurley, passed Monday, July 8, 2013 at Miami VA Hospital, Miami, FL with his children by his side. He was born September 3, 1947 in Kingston and is the son of the late Kenneth W. Hopper and Lillian Hopper Krom.
He was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1965 and had attended Ulster County Community College. He was a US Army veteran, having served from 1968-1974.
Ken had been employed by the US Postal Service in Kingston and Newburgh for 34 years until his retirement in 2002.
Kenny enjoyed playing golf, fishing, softball, crossword puzzles, and going on his annual Saratoga trip with good friends. He was avid reader and loved spending time with family & friends. He was a devoted sports fan and enjoyed supporting his favorite teams the Boston Red Sox & Dallas Cowboys. Ken was a member of the Hurley Social Club, Moose Lodge in NY & Florida, and the VFW.
Ken is survived by his children, Jamie Gilpatric Hopper of Saugerties and Lucas Taylor Hopper of Jacksonville, FL, his two sisters, Jo Anne Hoyt of Tillson, and Nancy Dyrdra and her Husband Mike of Rochester, NY, as well as Five nephews & nieces, Dan Hoyt, Doug Hoyt, Joelle Rider, Deborah Focht-Hoyt and Julie Dyrda; nine great nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Visitation Hours will be on Sunday July 28th 2013 from 12 - 2pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm with Rev. Charles Stickley, officiating. Burial will follow immediately after at the Hurley Cemetery, Hurley, NY.
