Kathryn "Kay" Sorensen, 82. Our beloved Wife and Mother passed away peacefully in the company of family on January 19, 2019. An accomplished artist, drawing recognizable peppers and tomatoes at 3 years old, first started doing commissioned work in grammar school charging 5 to 10 cents a cartoon for classmates. She was passionate about art, travel, and spending time with family and friends including one she spoke to every day for 45 years. Long-term friendships also were formed from membership in the Left-Footers Square Dance club, swimming at the YMCA and former Holiday Inn, various art associations and book clubs among may other organizations. She enjoyed multiple ways of giving back to the community, including singing as part of "Sheila's Singers" at various local nursing facilities.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jens Erick; a daughter Kathleen (Kenneth) and sons Thomas, Stephen, Sr. (Susie), Michael (friend, Heidi) and Craig (Sue); her brother, David (Mary Lynn); grandsons Erick (Tracy), Stephen, Jr. and Daniel (friend, Alyssa) and a great-grandson; sister-in-law Liz; Godson Mark; cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Marian and brothers Richard and Paul. Services will be private. Contributions in her memory can be made to the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County or the Norman Rockwell Museum.
