Kathryn L. Heavey, 99, of Kingston, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Kingston Hospital. She was born August 18, 1912 in Kingston, the daughter of the late James S. and Mary Young Heavey.
Miss Heavey graduated as Salutatorian of Kingston High School, and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from Barnard College in New York City, Class of 1935. After returning to Kingston, she then graduated from the Kingston Hospital School of Nursing. Miss Heavey was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Tumor Clinic, and then the Ulster County Infirmary, which became Golden Hill Health Care Facility; she retired as the Night Supervisor in 1974.
Kathryn was a member of the Fair Street Reformed Church, the Kingston Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, the YWCA of Kingston, having been named Woman of the Year, the Historic Preservation & Planning Alumni of Cornell and the American Academy of Poets.
She is survived by her dear friends, Bert and Shirley Darrow and family
