Kathleen Mason Sheehan

February 1, 1944 — November 17, 2015

Kathleen Mason Sheehan was a loving wife, fiercely devoted mother, adoring grandmother and true friend. If you were lucky enough to know her, you were truly lucky enough. Born in Brooklyn to Harold Mason and Gloria Mason, (nee Beake), Kathleen spent the first two years of her childhood in her grandparents' home in Hollis, NY. Her father Harold, who entered military service in 1940 was grievously injured during the D-Day Invasion at St. Lo. Following his discharge from the United States Army in 1947, he moved his wife and daughter to Ruby, where the Mason family had spent their summers since 1913.

The family later returned to Queens County, NY but continued to spend summers in Ruby. Kathleen graduated Valedictorian from Colby Academy in Brooklyn, Class of 1960. At 17, she went on to study education at the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she met her husband, Patrick, within his first two weeks on campus. They married on September 26, 1964, at St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church Farmingdale, New York, and had two children, Heather Anne and Patrick Mason.

An accomplished teacher, Kathy's genuine enjoyment of children inspired her students to perform. Along with the 3Rs, she brought humor, classical music, discipline and a deep respect for learning to the classroom. Although she enjoyed a distinguished career, spanning over 35 years, the defining principle of her life was devotion to her family. She expected a great deal from her husband and children but gave all of herself in return. We are so bereft because she has no equal in our lives, nor could she ever.

A lovely woman, inside and out, Kathleen possessed a joie de vivre that was readily apparent in her crystal blue eyes and outstanding sense of humor. She was a devout Roman Catholic, who cherished an abiding love for the Blessed Mother; her faith was a source of great comfort to her throughout her life.
Kathleen is survived by her husband of 51 years, Patrick; her daughter, Heather Anne, and husband Wayne; her son, Patrick Mason, and his wife, Caroline; together with her beloved grandchildren: David and Gloria Graff; Patrick Joseph, Laura Kathleen and Kevin Jude Sheehan. She is also survived by her extended family and close friends, including her "sister", Carol McNamara, and dearest friend, Carl Stauble.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the outstanding doctors and staff at NYP-Weill Cornell Medical Center, the Spring Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Hudson Valley Hospice and the sensitive and considerate caretakers who assisted her in recent days. In lieu of flowers, it is respectfully requested that contributions be made in Kathleen's honor to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Hudson Valley Hospice. Friends are invited to pay their respects at A. Carr and Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave., Kingston, NY on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 166 Broadway, Kingston, NY on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Ann's Cemetery, Sawkill Road, Sawkill, NY.
