Kathleen Benedetto, 64, of Saugerties, died Monday, April 16, 2018 at HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus surrounded by her loving family. Born in Staten Island, NY, she was a daughter of the late Salvatore and Anne Crawford Peone. Kathleen was a published poet who penned a poem, titled The Shuttle, which was recognized by N.A.S.A following the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster. She enjoyed reading, especially true crime books. Kathleen also liked to listen to the music of her favorite performer, Elvis Presley. A New York Mets fan, she enjoyed making banners with her family and attending the banner day parade at the stadium. Kathleen loved to cook, especially for her partner of 15 years, Bob Lundy Sr., but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Kathleen was a former co-owner of Reusables, a used furniture store, which was located on Main Street in Saugerties. Most recently she was employed by Adams Fairacre Farms in the garden section, until her retirement. Kathleen is survived by two children, Kristi Wells and her husband Darren of Kingston and Vernon Benedetto Jr. and his wife, Ann, of New Paltz, Karen Cathers affectionately known as Kathleens other mother; three brothers, Joseph Peone, and his wife Edna, Christopher Peone, and his wife Susan, and Justin Peone; four sisters, Patricia Sullivan, and her husband Mike, Laura Peone, Christina Pappalardo, and her husband Carl, Nikki Pison, and her husband Jeff; as well as seven grandchildren, Dakotah, Hunter, Kaeden, Charlotte, Emma, Andrew, and Abigail. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive . Besides her parents and her late husband, Vernon Benedetto Sr whom she married in 1972; Kathleen was predeceased by her sisters, Julie Humphrey, Catherine Peone, and Gerry Lunan. Inurnment at Montrepose Cemetery will be at the discretion of her family. Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue, is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
