Karl Heinz Schoenherr, age 81, of Tilden Street, Port Ewen died Friday, December 28, 2007 at his residence. Husband of the late Lillian Hodovanec Schoenherr, who died September 13, 2006. Mr. Schoenherr was born August 31, 1926 in Flensburg, Germany, the son of the late Wilhelmine Schoenherr.
He trained in German technical schools and was a skilled mechanic, tool and die maker. He served in the German Navy, was captured and held as POW. He immigrated to this country in the 1950's. and became a US citizen.
He had been employed by IBM of Poughkeepsie. Prior to working at IBM, he had worked at Hercules Powder Company
He was a longtime member of Hidden Harbor Yacht Club, joining in 1963; he had served as Commodore in 1975. He was a member of Masonic Temple - Copernicus Lodge #545 F & AM, Whitestone, NY
He is survived by a daughter Ellen and her husband Dr. William M. Bakey of Port Ewen, NY, grandchildren Kristofer, Ashlee & Kalin Bakey.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 - 7 pm. The funeral will be Monday at 11:30 at Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen. Inurnment at Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston at a later date.
