Karen Wojciechowski

Our family lost a brave and amazing woman on Saturday May 26th 2012. Karen Lynn Christman Wojciechowski left behind her world of pain to join her mother in Heaven after a valiant nine month battle with Leiomyosarcoma. Karen was born August 3, 1962 to Evan and the late Salli Knabb Christman. She graduated from Emmaus (Pa.) High School, where she played on the basketball and track teams, and remained a lifelong athlete. Karen received her Associate degree in Animal Husbandry from SUNY-Delhi, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Ind. Karen worked as a lab technician in several big business and academic settings, most recently at Cornell University in the Dairy Science division. As such, Karen had the opportunity to present the findings of current Cornell dairy studies to several international groups in France and the Netherlands, as well as in the US. Karen is survived by her father, Evan C. Christman, and stepmother, Barbara Day of Allentown Pa; sister and caregiver, Kim C. Bryant and husband, Doug, of Midlothian Va; brother, Reese Badman, and wife Ashley, of Lehighton Pa; stepsister, Emily Schofield, and husband, Parker "Bear", of Fairfax, Va; devoted love and co-caregiver, Mark Newbold of Pine Plains, NY; nieces and nephews, Evan R Bryant, Dane and Alorah Badman, Henry and Lily Charlotte Schofield; and her fuzzy, four-legged kids, Icabod, Gibbs, and Thor. She will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins, especially Betsy B. Hillis of Cave Creek, Az; and many friends and co-workers who were all a part (along with the family) of Karen's Angels, her support and prayer group these past nine months. The family especially wants to thank Linda and Bryon Petschow, Sean and Diane Schell, and Janene Lucia for their hands-on love and support; the staff of Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (53rd Street) for their professional and compassionate care; and the loving assistance of Suzanne O'Brian, Elaine MacArthy and Chaplain Chris Boyd of Hospice Inc. for their care and spiritual guidance these last weeks. In lieu of flowers, Karen requested that donations be made in her name to the LMSarcoma Direct Research Foundation, available online. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
