Julia Palmer, 92, of Kingston, died, March 2, 2014 at home.
Born in Far Rockaway, NY, she was a daughter of the late Smith & Julia Raab Durland. Julia lived in Hewlett for many years before moving to West Hurley in 1955. For 12 years she worked at the former Hudson Valley Federal Savings & Loan in Kingston, before retiring in 1976 as Assistant Vice President. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church and then later of St. Joseph Church. Julia was a member of the Ulster County Community Services Board in Kingston and the Business & Professional Women's Organization. She and her late husband Arthur were pioneers in establishing programs for developmentally disabled citizens. Their efforts were recognized by naming the Ulster Greene ARC Palmer Center after them in honor of their many years of work.
Julia is survived by her three children, Gayle Brackett of Jacksonville, FL, Arthur R. Palmer, Jr. of Kingston and Susanne Palmer of Kingston, two grandchildren, Paul & William Brackett and one great granddaughter, Bailey Beth Brackett. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her husband, Arthur R. Palmer, Sr, a sister, Marie LeSeur and a brother, William Durland.
Reposing at the Simspon-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 5-8 PM.
The funeral procession will form on Thursday from the funeral home at 9:00 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church.
Interment will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
