He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WW II , Pacific Theater of Operations haaving been stationed out of Pearl Harbor
Judge Vogt was a graduate of the University of Detroit, after graduation he served in the FBI from 1951 to 1958; in 1958 he graduated from St. John's University with his Jurist Doctorate. He moved to the Kingston area and practiced law in the firm of Larkin & Vogt. He was a part time district attorney and in 1970 was elected to serve as Ulster County District Attorney; he held that position until 1978 when he was elected to serve as Ulster County Court Judge from 1978 till his retirement in 1993.
He was a communicant of St. Josephs RC Church, a member of the New York State Bar Association, Wiltwyck Country Club and a former member of the Twafskill Golf Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Medora "Clai" Claiborne Reading and her husband Todd, of Palm City, FL; a son James R. Hanstein and his wife Sandra of Kingston, NY; granddaughter Ashley M. Terwilliger of Aspen, CO; deMarigny Hanstein, Quincy, MA and Margot Hanstein of Kingston, a sister, Nancy White of Port St. Lucie, FL. Predeceased by a sister, Joanne Collins.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday July 19 at 2:00 pm.
