Josephine Munson Thayer, 99, died on Sunday, June 2, 2013 after a long illness at Ten Broeck Commons, Lake Katrine, NY.
Josephine Thayer was a former resident of 43 Crown Street, Kingston.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Morris Clothier Maxwell and Harry MacDonell Thayer.
She was also predeceased by two brothers, C. LaRue Munson and Townsend Munson and two sisters, Katherine Munson Ducey and Natalie Munson Brengle.
Born May 22, 1914, in Merion, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Sharp Munson and Katherine Townsend.
She attended Shipley and Foxcroft Schools, graduating from Brilliantmont International School in Lausanne, Switzerland. She lived in Wynnewood, PA, Los Angeles, CA, Ellenville, NY, and since 1958, in Kingston, NY. At Ten Broeck Commons her longtime aide Dody DeCicco especially gave her loving care.
Jo Thayer did volunteer work most of her life until she became a Licensed Practical Nurse at age 58 and worked in the Maternity Ward at the Kingston Hospital. She was active in the Children's Home of Kingston and Coach House Players Theatre. She also enjoyed reading, needlepoint, painting, photography, weaving, cooking and writing poetry. She was a member of AA for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Walter C. Maxwell of Kingston, Mac Thayer of Richmond, VA and one daughter Dr. Natalie Maxwell Hauptman Griffin of New York City, three grandchildren, Laurence Clothier Maxwell of Kingston, Christopher Jarman Thayer of Denver, CO, Alison Tracey Thayer of Richmond, VA and ten nieces and nephews.

A Life Celebration Service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 207 Albany Ave, Kingston at Noon on Saturday, June 15th. Burial is at Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville.
