Josephine "Jo" Gerbino Schmitz, 97, of Port Ewen, NY, died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Ten Broeck Commons, Lake Katrine, NY. She was born August 22, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Giacchino and Benvenuta Sciortino Gerbino.

She was the wife of the late Heinrich Schmitz. For many years she had worked as a seamstress in the Ladies Garment Industry. Josephine was a parishioner of Presentation of The Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading.

She is survived a brother Leo Gerbino of Sarasota, Fl, her niece Rose Mueller and her husband Joerg of Port Ewen, a nephew, Gregory Mueller and his wife Doreen of Wappingers Falls, a nephew, Mark Mueller and his wife Karin of Manalapan, NJ, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, the family will receive their friends on Wednesday from 4 - 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Presentation of The Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Port Ewen on Thursday at 10 am. Burial in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island.
