Joseph Simmons, Sr. was a resident of Kingston, N.Y. for over 20 years, a disabled IBM Engineer went into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Kingston Hospital in Kingston, N.Y. He was 63.
The son of the late Elijah Simmons and Fannie Cole Simmons was born March 14, 1949 in Arkansas. He has briefly lived in Poukeepsie, Rosendale, Newburgh, among other places.
Joseph loves God and reading his Bible, spending time with his family, walking, fishing, playing basketball, and having interesting conversations. Joseph has a passion for his children and grandchildren. He is also very intelligent, kind-hearted, friendly, great spirit, wise, and excellent communicator. He also read the entire Bible and can quote many scriptures. He has touched many people from his family, friends, community, and strangers. Joseph will be deeply missed.
Joseph overcame life's obstacles and challenges. He experienced a long term disability from employment. His courage, strength, wisdom, love, and faith will always be deeply admired and respected.
A family statement reads, "Our dad is a loving, caring, spiritual, and dedicated father. He is our symbol of pure unconditional love and undying faith. He taught us how to love and to actively seek the Wisdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven. He truly loved without bounds and with open arms. He will be deeply missed. " His legacy continues with his three sons, Joseph Simmons, Jr. and Marcus Simmons of Newburgh, Gian Simmons of New York; one daughter, Cynthia Simmons of Newburgh; one brother, Fred Simmons; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He has four sisters, Eliza Simmons, Earline Simmons, Frances Shaw, and Katherine Sneed, all predeceased; two brothers, John Simmons and Elijah Simmons, both predeceased.
