Joseph P. Nalepa Sr. of Second Avenue, Kingston died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Golden Hill Health Care Facility. He was 88.
A native and lifelong Kingston resident, he was born on January 8, 1917, a son of the late Wawrzyniec 'John' and Katarzyna 'Kathryn' Madajewski Nalepa. On March 1, 1942 he married Emma Berardi.
A US Army veteran of WW II, Mr. Nalepa received a Purple Heart, two Bronze Service Stars and a Combat Infantry Badge. When he returned from service he worked building the tunnel for the Delaware Aquaduct.
In 1951 Mr. Nalepa began a 25 year career with I.B.M. He worked as a Maintenance Dispatcher until retirement in 1977. He was a 20 year member of the I.B.M. Quarter Century Club.
A member of the Joyce - Schirick Post 1386, V.F.W., Mr. Nalepa was a member of the White Eagle Benevolent Society.
One daughter Catherine Nalepa died December 20, 1952; one brother John 'Jeff' Nalepa, and two sisters Frances and Anna F. Nalepa all died previously.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years are two daughters Anne Nalepa of Highland and Frances Rossi and her husband Keith of Kingston; one son Joseph Nalepa Jr. and his wife Linda of Hurley; four grandchildren Jason M. and Hilary Nalepa, Keith A. Rossi Jr. and Kevin M. Rossi; many nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Joyce - Schirick Post #1386 will conduct a ritual at 7:45 PM on Monday.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00 AM. Interment, with military honors by the Joyce-Schirick Post 1386 Color Guard, will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 467 Delaware Ave., Kingston, NY 12401.
