Joseph Winne Myers passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus.
Born in Kingston, NY to Raymond and Helen (Bolanowski) Winne on July 29, 1930, he was raised by Sylvester and Jessie Myers in Sawkill and Yonkers, NY.
Joseph graduated from Kingston High School and worked for IBM for 35 years. Joe previously attended Plattekill Reformed Church and Fountain of Life Christian Church.
He was a hobby fisherman and hunter until he could no longer find his way out of the woods. He excelled as a cook but was even better at enjoying good food. A favorite pastime was shopping. He could not pass up a bargain turning the basement into a quasi-warehouse.
He married Avis G. Hirschey in 1950. She survives as do his children Dr. Gregory (Berta) Myers of Tennessee and their five children, Gary (Dody) Myers of Sawkill and their two children, and Debra (Paul) Tomaszewski of Indiana and their four children and several nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond Winne Jr. and Ralph Myers, and sisters Esther Bauer, Elizabeth Weidman, Leah Annan, and Allie Vanek.
Joseph will be reposing at Fountain of Life Christian Church, 71 Old King's Highway, Lake Katrine, NY on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 12-1:30 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at the church at 1:30 pm.
Interment will follow in Mt. Marion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ulster County SPCA or Salvation Army of Greater NY.
