Joseph J. Palen, formerly of Wrentham Street died Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Golden Hill Health Care Facility. He was 70.
A native and lifelong Kingston resident, Joseph was a Kingston High School graduate. He entered the US Army in 1964 and served for two years. For over 30 years Joseph worked at the US Post Office, Kingston as a carrier. He retired in 1997. An avid sportman, Joe coached and umpired Kingston American Little League baseball and Kingston City Softball. He bowled in the St. Peter's league and served as Chaplain of the Elks Lodge #550. Joe was a past Vice Commander of the Kingston American Legion Post #150.
Loving father of Dwayne Palen of Kingston; Peter Palen and his wife Gabrielle of Saugerties, Gina Tucker and her husband Kevin of Saugerties and Debra Palen-Hadley and her husband Michael of Saugerties; grandfather of Jason and Christina, Chelsea and Skyler Tucker, Braiden Palen, Evan Normann and Brandi Hadley; former husband of Patricia Palen of Saugerties; beloved nephew of Jennie Lewis and Russell Mottsey, both of East Kingston; dear friend of Linda Hulsair of Kingston. Many cousins also survive.
Reposing at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Ritual by the Kingston Post #150, American Legion will be conducted on Thursday at 7:30 PM. The funeral procession will form on Friday at 8:30 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Colman's Church at 9:30 AM. Interment, with military honors by Joyce-Schirick Post #1386 Color Guard, will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
