Joseph D Hill

Joseph D Hill, 83, of Kingston, passed peacefully Tuesday morning, June 18, 2013, after a long illness. Born January 4, 1930 in Kingston, the son of the late Joseph H. and Mary Gaffney Hill. He was raised in Rosendale.

He was married to Jane Briggs, July 28, 1954. After they were married for 53 years, Jane passed away in 2007. He was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1947; Fordham University, 1951; and Albany Law School in June 1954. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1954. In December, 1954, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany for 18 months. Upon returning to Ulster County, Mr. Hill practiced law for 50 years. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Kingston, a member of Wiltwyck Golf Club and enjoyed many winters with his wife Jane in Maui, Hawaii.

He is survived by a brother Edward T. and his wife Evelyn A. Hill of Port Ewen; his children Michael Hill and his wife Barbara Anderson of Indian Lake, NY; Martha Jones and her daughter Mattalynn of Poughkeepsie; Beth Hill of Kingston; Mary Hill of Kingston; Thomas Hill of Asheville, NC; Patti and her husband Michael Miranda of Shandaken, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday, June 21, 2013, from 4pm to 8pm at Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. A mass will be celebrated at St. Josephs Church, Kingston on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 10am. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Drive, Kingston, NY 12401
