Joseph A. Dittus of Hillsworth Ave., Kingston died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Benedictine Hospital. He was 72.
A native and lifelong Kingston resident, he was a son of the late Arthur and Kathrine Hart Dittus. A Kingston High School graduate, he served in the US Army and was stationed in Europe. He married Joan M. Sottile on May 20, 1962.
Joe worked at I.B.M., Kingston for over 25 years in production control. He belonged to the Quarter Century Club. After retirement he worked at the Ulster County Records Management Program until his illness.
A devout Catholic, over the years, Joe attended St. Mary's, St. Joseph's and St. Peter's Church. He was a long-time member at Scotch Mountain Gun Club, Delhi and Rapid Hose Fire Co. #1, Kingston.
Beloved husband of Joan Dittus; loving father of Lisa Dittus of Kingston and Michael Dittus and his wife Denise of Saugerties; grandfather of Matthew and Joseph Dittus. Several cousins and his canine companion, Niki, also survive.
Reposing at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Monday at 9;15 a.m. from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment, with military honors by Joyce-Schirick Post 1386 Color Guard, will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
