Jon Thomas (Tee jay) Tolbert

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved Jon Thomas (Tee jay) Tolbert of Kingston, NY.

Jon departed this earth on Monday, October 23, 2023 at the age of 61.  He was the only child born to the late Myrna Tolbert. He received his high school education at a prestigious prep school in New England. Upon completion of high school he attended Hampton University, Virginia for a year and transferred to SUNY at Stony Brook and later transferred and graduated from SUNY at New Paltz. Moreover, he was a member of Sigma Phi Rho Fraternity Inc.

Tee jay was a member of New Progressive Baptist Church, under Pastor Charles McCombs.  He was baptized on 8/14/22 and was active in Men's Ministry and part of the culinary team. He had a passion for sports, especially basketball and football.  He was active in his community and volunteered to help animals. He owned a rescue cat named Marty. 

Tee jay worked part time at In Flight as a Community Habilitation Direct Support Professional. This work was a great source of joy for him by giving him an opportunity to provide support to assist those in need.  

TJ had a big heart and a kind, loving and humble spirit.  He was grateful for the simplest of things and his smile and presence lit up a room. He touched many lives with his generosity and passion for people and always had a kind or inspiring word for his family and friends.  He looked out for others and always had a good joke or story to tell.  

His passing has left a huge hole in our hearts. Those of us who knew and loved him consider ourselves truly blessed. 

He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy of love and kindness; dear friend Justin Bihr, close longtime friend and fraternity brother James Richardson, cousins, friends and co-workers.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service. A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4199 Webster Ave, Bronx, NY 10470 on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11am. Please arrive at 10:45. All are welcome to attend.
