John William Doxtader, 62, of Hurley, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at home. He was born September 14, 1953 in Herkimer, NY. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Kathy Doxtader. Beloved father of his daughter, Jennifer and her husband Jet Lin of Seattle, WA, his sons, Brian Doxtader and Susan Harris of Boston, MA, David Doxtader and his wife Erin of Richland, WA, and James Doxtader of Kingston, his grandchildren, Walter and Andrea Lin, and Aedan, Sophia, and Patrick Doxtader.
John worked for IBM for 35 years earning many patents as a Software Engineer. He was most proud of his contributions to the Mainframes & Super Computers. John was a graduate of SUNY Oswego. He received a Masters Degree in Computer Science from RPI, and a Masters Degree in Music from SUNY Potsdam. John sang with the Saratoga Potsdam Chorus for 6 years in the 70's. He became friends with Conductor Eugene Ormandy.
John earned the Silver Presidential Award for volunteering in the community. Through his volunteer hours, John acquired grant money which he gave to Ronald Mc Donald House and the Kingston City School District for Lego League. John coached Little League Baseball, soccer, and Lego League. John volunteered as a Religion teacher for 6 years. He served as a Eucharistic minister at St. John's Church where he is a Knight of Columbus. He is most proud of his 4th day as a member of Cursillo. John volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Albany making meals, baking, and welcoming guests to the house. He enjoyed family vacations in York Beach, Maine, & Disney World. John enjoyed playing guitar, photography, tennis, and Sudoku. He was a fan of the Yankees, Notre Dame Football, and NY Giants. He bowled in the IBM League in his early years and the Senior League at Kingston Lanes.
Also surviving are his sisters in law, Nancy Shambo, Linda Zoumaya, Patricia Rowe, and Cindy and Karen Green, his mother, Patricia Doxtader of Herkimer, NY, his siblings, Janice Zinicola, Mary Burdick, Therese Susino, and Daniel, Timothy, and Tom Doxtader, and their families, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, John Doxtader, his siblings, Paul and Margaret Doxtader, and his mother and father in law, Donald and Lorraine Green.
Entrusted to the care of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, where friends and family may visit on Sunday April 10th from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral procession will form on Monday April 11th at 9:30am at the funeral home and proceed to St. Joseph's RC Church, 242 Wall St., Kingston where at 10:30am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to, Ronald McDonald House/Albany at
