John S. Ferraro

John "Jack" Ferraro of East Chester Street By-Pass, Town of Ulster died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Kingston Hospital. He was 77. He was born in Glasco on October 2, 1930, a son of the late John S. and Lillian Marabell Ferraro. A graduate of Saugerties High School, class of '48; he then received a degree in business at Hartwick College, Oneonta. He married Lorraine Secreto on August 14, 1951. Mr. Ferraro was a respected and award-winning harness horse driver and trainer. He raced for many years at Saratoga, Monticello and Yonkers Raceways. He was the former owner and operator of Mid-City Lanes, Cedar St., Kingston. An accomplished baseball player, Mr. Ferraro was inducted into the Kingston city Baseball League Hall of Fame in 1996. His love of bowling brought him many successess. He was a member of the winning team that captured the ABC Team Tournament "all events" title. He was also inducted into the Kingston Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He continued to share his bowling knowledge through coaching local bowlers. Mr. Ferraro was an avid golfer and enjoyed sailing his boats along the Hudson. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lorraine Secreto Ferraro; two sons Stephen Ferraro and his wife Linda of Kingston; David Ferraro and his wife Gloria of Kingston; four grandchildren Julie, Kimberly, John David and Gabrielle Ferraro. Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. The funeral procession will form on Saturday at 9:15 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
