John "Jack" Peter Martin, of Neighborhood Rd., Lake Katrine, NY, died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at home. He was born January 9, 1933 in Scotch Plains, NJ a son of the late Joseph and Elma Hammett Martin. A graduate of Scotch Plains High School, he served in the navy during the Korean Conflict. On April 28, 1967, he married Elaine Binder in Union, NJ and recently celebrated their 46th. wedding anniversary. Mr. Martin was the Advertising Director of the Daily Freeman, retiring in 1999. He was an avid golfer and a former member of Wiltwyck Country Club. He enjoyed reading, wood working and gardening.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Amy Russell and her husband Robert of West Hurley; Laura Waldinger and her husband Mark of Saratoga Springs; his brother, C. Joseph Martin and his wife Joyce of Warren, NJ; and his sister, Nancy Lowrie of Scotch Plains, NJ. Three grandchildren, Andrew and Emma Russell and Matthew Waldinger and several nieces and nephews also survive. His brother-in-law Dean Lowrie died previously. Entrusted to the care of Paul Geary of the Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Cremation was private. A memorial service will be held at the Fair Street Reformed Church on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
