John J. Naccarato, 90, a lifelong Kingston, NY, resident passed away at his residence on Thursday, October 6, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Elementary School and Kingston High School. He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 and trained in the N.C.O. school for 18 weeks of basic training, graduating as a Corporal, Noncommissioned Officer Cadre. After 2 years of active service, he then served in the Army reserve for 6 years. He continued his education at Dutchess County Community College, he studied business management and in 1962 was awarded the Certificate of Achievement. He owned and operated several businesses throughout his life.
John had a life long passion to serve the community. For 26 years he was the district representative for Congressman Hamilton Fish, Jr. He served the City of Kingston as an Alderman for 6 years from 1963 – 1968, then as a County Legislator for 16 years from 1988 - 2004, serving as Chairman of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee and on the Mental Health Committee and the Ways and Means Committee.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s RC Church, had been a member of the Kingston Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus #275, Elks Club #550, a 50-year member of American Legion Post #150, Ulster County Community Action Board, Salvation Army Board, Food Pantry Consortium Board, United Way Board, Board of Assessment and Review and OTB Chairman, Catskill Region.
His hobbies included golf, gardening (both vegetables & flowers), and reading.
He received honors from the Integrated Early Intervention Child Network and from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department for service to those groups.
John was born on February 12, 1932 and was the son of the late Charles and Caroline Nardi Naccarato, he is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Mehm) Naccarato, his children Stephen (Mary) Naccarato, Michael Naccarato, MaryAnn (Richard) Snyder - Nissen, Christine (Randy) Buenzow and Vincent (Stephanie) Naccarato, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughters, Christine Lynn Snyder and Abby-Lynn Buenzow and his siblings, Fortunata Polacco, James Naccarato, Mary Critili, Emma Silvestri, Theresa Peterman, and Anthony, Charles, Francis and Peter Naccarato.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where the family will receive their friends on Thursday from 4 -7 pm. On Friday, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s RC Church, Kingston at 10am. The family suggests memorial donations to Peoples Place, 17 St. James Street, Kingston, NY 12401.
