John L. Costello, of Penstock Lane, Lake Katrine died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at Kingston Hospital. He was 84.
He was born in East Kingston on December 24, 1919, a son of the late Louis and Josephine M. Amato Costello. Mr. Costello served in the US Army during WW II in the European Theater of Operations as a Master Sergeant. He married Theresa Ferguell on September 15, 1946.
A US Post Office employee for 33 years, Mr. Costello was an accountant in Kingston for 30 years and then a report manager in Poughkeepsie for 3 years. He retired in 1979 and did volunteer tax preparation for VITA, Kingston.
Since 1959, Mr. Costello has owned and operated John Costello General Insurance.
A parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, he previously served as treasurer to the Town of Ulster Seniors and belonged to the Leisure Club. He was a member of A.A.R.P.
Three sisters Frances Costello, Lillian Nagy and Mary D. Cole and two brothers James and Frank Costello, all died previously.
Beloved husband of Theresa Ferguell Costello; loving father of Laureen Calautti and her husband Michael; Allan Costello and his wife Pamela; brother of the late Frances Costello, Lillian Nagy, Mary D. Cole, James and Frank Costello; grandfather of Matthew, Carl and Melissa Calautti, Laura, Emily and Rachel Costello. Five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews also survive.
Reposing at Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:15 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church at 10:00 AM. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
