John J. Marmo of Hurley died on September 30, 2009 at Benedictine Hospital.
Mr. Marmo was highly respected in the diamond and jewelry industry and considered, by many, to be an expert in the diamond field with a career that spanned the majority of his life and all segments of the industry. He was also employed for many years as the manager of the furniture department at the former Montgomery Wards.
Born February 27, 1925 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Felice and Maria Josephine Calabrese Marmo.
He is survived by his beloved and adoring wife, Rosetta Colange Marmo, whom he married May 1, 1954; his two daughter Maria Guarente and her husband Augustus of Hurley and Lisa Whitcomb of Hurley; his devoted son John of Hurley; three cherished granddaughters Juliana Guarente and Rosie and Maria Whitcomb; several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers Joseph and Michael Marmo, one sister Carmela Principate, and one nephew Garry Marmo all died previously.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Hurley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hurley Rescue Squad.
